TRAINING CENTER PROGRAMS
Precision Manufacturing & Machining Technology is an instructional program that prepares individuals to shape metal parts on machines such as lathes, grinders, drill presses, and milling machines. Included is instruction in making computations related to work dimensions, testing, feeds, and speeds of machines; using precision measuring instruments such as layout tools, micrometers, and gauges; machining and heat-treating various metals; and laying out machine parts. Also included is instruction in the operation and maintenance of computer equipment.

The first year of the course consists of hands-on operation of machine shop equipment and classroom theory covering such areas as safety, blueprint reading, lathe and milling machine operation, theory and operation of basic Computer Numerical Control (CNC) equipment, metallurgy and shop math. In the second year of study the student learns advanced operation of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) equipment, CAD/CAM, and production methods along with the development of more advanced hands-on skills. Throughout the program, students will have the opportunity to acquire National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) credentials. EMCC also offers a one-year career certificate program in Precision Manufacturing and Machining.

This program includes instruction and practice in manufacturing techniques and processes, including standard conventional machining, computer-numerical-control machining and computer-aided drafting and manufacturing (CAD/CAM). Also included are topics related to the fundamentals of manufacturing, such as blueprint reading, precision layout, maintenance and various calculations used in industry. Students will develop skill sets that are valued by manufacturers nationwide and validated by national accrediting agencies such as the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) and the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM). The curriculum was developed by utilizing the national industry standards for machining skills as developed and approved by the NIMS. Outcomes are competency-based and measured in accordance with NIMS national standards and competencies. Completion of each course provides students with the necessary competencies to obtain stackable credentials as they progress through the program

The Precision Manufacturing and Machining Technology major is available on the Senatobia campus. This is an instructional program that prepares individuals to analyze specifications and lay out metal stock and to set up and operate machine tools to fit and assemble parts for the manufacture and repair of metalworking dies, cutting tools, fixtures, gauges, and machinists hand tools.
