TRAINING CENTER PROGRAMS
The Nursing program is a five-semester program whose mission is to prepare graduates to practice safe, competent, patient-centered care in an increasingly complex and rapidly changing health care system. The program seeks to provide full and equal access to opportunities for educational success to meet the community needs. The Nursing curriculum incorporates general education courses along with nursing courses. The nursing courses include classroom instruction with guided clinical experiences in varied health care agencies. Nursing graduates have the opportunity to become Registered Nurses in the healthcare field after successful passage of the NCLEX-RN exam. Registered Nurses are among the most in-demand jobs in the region and also are among the highest paying.

Applicants must: (1) be accepted to the college, (2) complete program application by deadline, (3) submit original transcripts from all colleges to the Office of Student Services by application deadline, (4) have a minimum of 18 ACT, and (5) have a minimum of 2.5 GPA on core courses - English Comp I, Intermediate Algebra, A&P I, A&P II, Microbiology, Human Growth & Development, Speech, and a Humanities Elective). The program of instruction is consistent with the institutional commitment of teaching and learning which is designed to incorporate the highest instructional and nursing standards. The program of instruction is designed to incorporate knowledge, attitudes, and skills applicable to life in a complex society. The program also focuses on the education and healthcare needs of rural East Central Mississippi. The associate degree nurse is prepared to provide and manage care for individuals and groups in a variety of health care settings. Clear, concise, and timely communication with internal and external constituencies is a critical success factor for an effective nursing program. We believe the nurse of the future must encompass the core concepts of patient-centered care, professionalism, leadership, systems-based practice, informatics, communication, collaboration, safety, quality improvement and evidenced based practice, in order to provide safe and effective care. Graduates of the program receive an Associate of Applied Science Degree (AAS).

Pre-requisites required: 70 hours Summary of Program Requirements Application deadline is January 31st. Applicants must complete a college application and a program application. Applicants must: (1) have a minimum ACT score of 18, (2) have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, (3) complete the following pre-reqs: A&P I with lab, A&P II with lab, and Microbiology with lab, (4) pay pre-admissions fees at the Business Office that include but is not limited to pre-entrance examinations and criminal background check by January 31st, (5) take a pre-entrance exam, and (6) be at least 18 years old. Applicants accepted into the program will have additional requirements, such as a physical exam, immunizations, TB test, and CPR/Basic Life Support certification. The purpose of the Associate Degree Nursing program is to prepare men and women for the role of registered nurse, competent to function as a professional and valuable member of the health care team in providing care for individuals, families and communities. EMCC offers two entry options for the Associate Degree Nursing Program. The Generic option and the LPN to RN transition option.

Applicants must: (1) apply and be accepted into EMCC, (2) submit a completed School of Nursing Application to the Allied Health Administrative Assistant, (3) have an accredited high school diploma or GED, (4) have a minimum composite score of 18 on the ACT, (5) a grade of C or higher in College Algebra, and Anatomy and Physiology I&II completed within the last 5 years, (6) Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale for all previous college work attempted. The Registered Nursing program at ICC is a two-year (five-semester) program. Graduates receive an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing degree and are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). The program offers one class per year beginning each fall.

Students in the program are prepared as entry level professional nurse caregivers. Mastery learning of some concepts is incorporated within the curriculum. Enrollment in nursing courses is limited to students formally accepted into the program of study. Non-nursing courses may be completed prior to admission into the nursing program Graduates of the program receive the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Degree which meets the educational requirement needed to apply for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing licensure examination for the Registered Nurse. A Board of Nursing may, at its discretion, refuse to accept the licensure application of any person who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor or has charges pending on such issues.
