In today’s data driven world, electrical and electronics engineering technicians design and construct computers, communications systems, medical monitoring devices, navigational equipment, and other electrical and electronic products. Telecommunications, automotive, aerospace and energy companies are looking for qualified, motivated individuals with the skills to perform.

Salaries vary from company to company, but on average, electrical and electronics engineering technicians earn about $55,000 and pay goes up with experience.

Employers prefer candidates to have a high school diploma or its equivalent, and many employers look for candidates with a community college technical degree.

Specific skills vary by type of technician work; however, technicians must generally demonstrate strong troubleshooting and problem skills, demonstrate creativity and attention to detail, the ability to perform well under pressure, knowledge of tools and equipment, awareness of safety standards, a mathematical competency in geometry and other areas necessary to inform problem-solving techniques, and the ability to multitask.
