Mechatronics are the men and women behind the machines.  Virtually all of today’s production is heavily automated, but skilled technicians are required to ensure that the systems as a whole is running smoothly.  Without mechatronics, bottlenecks can develop, leading to production downtime and lost profits.

Ideal candidates for plant operators and mechatronics must be able to work in varied environments (including noisy workplaces), demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills, be able to work on their feet a large portion of the day, monitor and inspect plant equipment, adjust controls, regulate equipment operations and conditions, take readings from charts and meters and, if necessary, take corrective steps to ensure proper functioning, and be aware of safety standards.

Because they are so crucial to the production process, employers in Mississippi are willing to pay mechatronics a starting average of around $30/hour.  With special training, pay can quickly increase to up to $80,000 per year or more.
